Ladies and gentlemen, Once again, in this difficult and challenging year, marked by the restrictions of COVID-19 pandemic in Bulgar ia and around the world, another edition of the International Photo Salon Plovdiv is taking place. Despite all the difficulties, the eighth “International Photo Salon Plovdiv – 2021“ again becomes a unique photographic event, which the Municipality of Plovdiv supports with the firm conviction that the Cultural Calendar of our city, the World Photographic Guild and loyal fans of this art have the need of it!

Уважаеми госпожи и господа, Отново в трудна, изпълнена с предизвикателства година, белязана от ограниченията на пандемията на COVID-19 у нас и по света, се случва поредното издание на „Международен Фото Салон Пловдив“. Независимо от всички трудности, осмият „Международен фото салон Пловдив – 2021“ отново се превръща в уникално фотографско събитие, което Община Пловдив подкрепя с твърдото убеждение, че Културният календар на нашия град, световната фотографска гилдия и верните почитатели на това изкуство имат нужда от него! „VIII Международен Фото Салон Пловдив 2021“ се провежда под патронажа на FIAP, HPS и Фотографска академия „Янка Кюркчиева“, и с подкрепата на Община Пловдив. В творческата провокация през 2021 година

“VIII International Photo Salon Plovdiv 2021” is held under the patronage of FIAP, HPS and Photographic Academy “Yanka Kyurkchieva”, and with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv. Talented photographers from all over the world took part in the creative provocation in 2021. A total of 4851 photographs from 353 authors, from 46 countries and 6 continents, were presented for participation in the six sections. For the final selection, a five-member international jury of three countries, chaired by Michele Macinai, EFIAP/s, AFI (Italy), selected 1177 photographs by 263 authors from 42 countries. Certainly, the task of the competent jury was not easy, because every year the participants present more and more beautiful, valuable and influential works that delight the audience and inspire their colleagues for new searches, horizons and a flight of human imagination. A novelty this year is that the organizer developed awards for the salon – Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals and „Honourable mentions“ for each section. Thus, a part of the thousand-year-old Plovdiv will delight authors all over the world. In 2021, the organizers put a strong challenge to young authors aged 16-21, who had the opportunity to participate for free in 2 sections. I am glad that from the selected photographs of young authors, there are also some awarded. There is a long-standing debate in the history of photography about i ts status – is i t an art or not? There is no art wi thout an idea and a message to a person. Both the good art ist and the photographer- artist manage to find in an ordinary landscape or in some even boring everyday si tuat ion, an opportuni ty to send thei r art ist ic message, to enter into a dialogue wi th the audience. Unfolding the album of “VIII International Photo Salon Plovdiv 2021” you wi l l personal ly see that the art of photography is not just capturing the moment, but it is a way of life. Photography is a discovery that radically changes the overall vision of the world. I congratulate the winners of the competition and I believe that here everyone will find something for themselves, and everyone will leave a piece of their heart. The first Bulgarian city European Capital of Culture – Plovdiv – ancient and eternal, magic and reality, a vast world is a place for inspiration and wonderful photographs! са се включили талантливи фотографи от цял свят. За участие в шестте раздела бяха представени общо 4851 фотографии, от 353 автора, от 46 държави, от 6 континента. За финалната селекция, петчленното международно жури от три държави, с председател Микеле Мачинай, EFIAP/s, AFI (Италия) определи 1177 фотографии на 263 автора от 42 държави. Със сигурност задачата на компетентното жури не е била лека, защото участниците всяка година представят все по-красиви, стойностни и въздействащи творби, които радват публиката и вдъхновяват колегите си за нови търсения, хоризонти и полет на човешкото въображение. Новост през настоящата година е, че организаторът проектира и продуцира награди на салона – Златен, Сребърен и Бронзов медал и „Почетни ленти“ за всеки раздел. Така частица от хилядолетния Пловдив, ще зарадва автори по целия свят. През 2021 година организаторите отправиха силно предизвикателство и към младите автори от 16-21 години, които имаха възможност да участват безплатно в 2 раздела. Радостен съм, че от селектираните фотографии на млади автори, има и наградени. В историята на фотографията съществува дългогодишен дебат относно нейния статут – изкуство ли е или не е? Няма изкуство без идея и послание към човека. Както добрият художник, така и фотографът-творец, успява да намери в един обикновен пейзаж или в някоя дори скучна ежедневна ситуация, възможност да отправи своето артистично послание, да влезе в диалог със зрителите. Разгръщайки албума на „VIII Международен Фото Салон Пловдив 2021“ личноще се убедите, че изкуството на фотографията не е просто улавяне на мига, а начин на живот. Фотографията е откритието, което променя радикално цялостната визия за света. Поздравявам победителите в конкурса и вярвам, че тук всеки ще намери нещо за себе си, и всеки ще остави частица от сърцето си. Първият български град Европейска столица на културата – Пловдив – древен и вечен, магия и реалност, един необятен свят е място за вдъхновение и прекрасни фотографии! International Photo Salon Plovdiv is a photographic competition under the patronage of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), patronages of Hellenic Photographic Society (HPS), and the Academy of Photography Bulgaria “Yanka Kyurkchieva” (APB). Tradition-

Everything happened naturally and was not a surprise for any of the people around me, because I have always been with a camera in hand and have always been involved in photography. Time was my obstacle to develop. I didn’t have the time needed because of my profession, which took up everything. But life was good to me and after twenty years in the acting profession I

Всеки може да го направи стига да има желание. Важното за мен е, да знаеш какво искаш да пока- жеш на публиката си и по какъв начин. Само така можеш да се отличиш в океана от снимки и фотографи. Винаги съм знаел какво искам да сни- мам и как то да изглежда. И в това свободно време, което живота ми предостави, просто набавих моите моливи с които да рисувам, като техника, знание за нея, умения в различните софтуери с които обра- ботвам снимките. Но аз знаех към какво се стремя и само търсех пъти- щата до крайната точка. Обичам да снимам всичко. Всичко ми е инте- ресно. Но най-много ме привличат интересните хора. Не мога да опиша чувството, когато намеря такъв човек. Има огромна тръпка в това търсене. Искам да разказвам истории на такива човеци. Другото нещо което ме вълнува е светлината. Преследвам я, търся я и се опит- вам да я уловя. Тези неща са следствие от актьорката ми работа. Там пресъздавам истории на интересни хора, там постоянно гоня светли- ната. Светлината е нещото което прави магията на сцената и кино- то. Радвам се, че съм актьор, защото качествата които съм придобил, сега ми помагат във фотографията. Но като актьор, аз съм интерпре- татор на чужди разкази, на чужди идея. Моята работа е да ги направя убедителни. Във фотографията съм аз, това са моите мисли, моите разкази, моята атмосфера, моите цветове, показвам това което на- истина ме вълнува и не мога да излъжа. Заради това фотографията се превърна във втората сцена на която творя и тази сцена е много по- истинската. И нещо много важно, с фотографията живота ми показа, че държи на мен. Това е голяма привилегия и винаги ще бъда благодарен, защото можеше и да не стане така. Това ми показва, че моят живот няма да бъде напразно.

was given time that was determined only for photography, and I took the advantage. I did not visit courses; I did not study photography. I developed myself by observing. I followed quality photography and authors who have style. The technical part of photography can be studied. Everybody would do it as long as they want to. The important thing for me was to know what I wanted to show to my audience and in what way. Thus, you are able to stand out in the ocean of photos and photographers. I always knew what I wanted to shoot and what it would look like. And in this free time that life has given me, I just got my pencils with which to draw, as technique, knowledge about it, skills in various software with which I processed photos. But I knew what I was aiming for and I was just looking for ways to the end point. I was fond of shooting everything. Everything is interesting to me. But I am most attracted to interesting people. I can’t describe the feeling when I find such a person. There is a huge thrill in this search. I want to tell stories of such people. The other thing that excites me is light. I chase it, look for it and try to catch it. These things are a consequence of my job as an actor. There I recreate stories of interesting people; there I constantly chase light. Light is what makes the magic of the stage and cinema. I am glad to be an actor because the qualities I have acquired now help me in photography. But as an actor, I am an interpreter of other people’s stories, of other people’s ideas. My task is to make them convincing. In photography I am Myself, these are my thoughts, my stories, my atmosphere, my colors, I show what really excites me and I cannot lie. Because of this, photography has become the second scene in which I create and this scene is much more real. And something very important, by means of photography my life has shown me that it holds on me. This is a great privilege and I will always be grateful because it might not have happened. This shows me that my life is not in vain.

My name is Minko Mihailov. I am a biologist by education. Photography has been my passion for more than 20 years. I shoot landscapes, people, nature, wildlife, macro. I like to capture emotions and tell stories with my photos. Eve ryth i ng around us i s beautiful and unique, you just have to feel and see. With photography I manage to make a real and unreal journey around the wide world. It is the key to new and unknown worlds and acquaintances.

Казвам се Минко Михайлов. По образование съм биолог. Фото- графията повече от 20 години e моя страст. Снимам пейзажи, хо- ра, природа, диви животни, макро. Обичам със снимките си да улавям емоции и да разказвам истории. Всичко около нас е прекрасно и неповторимо, само трябва да се почувства и види. С фотографията успявам да направя реално и нереално пътешествие из широкия свят. Тя е ключ към нови и непознати светове и познанства.

Нeзависимо дали снимам хора или природа се опитвам да уловя мига, онзи миг, който никога повече няма да се повтори. Фотографията е предизвикателство за мен, отивайки на ново и различно място, винаги се опитвам да го покажа така както аз го усещам, да го почувствам и после да го пресъздам през моята душа и моите очи. Фотографията за мен е пътуване в света на формите и светлината, тя е не само гледна точка, емоция или моментен отрязък от време, тя е всичко онова, което се събира в една дума - СТРАСТ.

Whether I’m shooting people or nature, I’m trying to capture the moment, the exactly that moment which will never happen again. Photography is a challenge for me, going to a new and different place, I always try to show it the way I feel it, to feel it and then to recreate it through my soul and my eyes. Photography for me is a journey into the world of forms and light, it is not just a point of view, an emotion or a momentary passage of time, it is everything that comes together in one word - PASSION.
